چکیده

In Japan, the standard treatment approach for women with early-stage cervical cancer includes a radical hysterectomy with bilateral pelvic lymphadenectomy for stage IB–IIB disease [1]. A benefit of surgery is that exploration allows surgeons to have an opportunity to assess the para-aortic lymph nodes (PANs) for metastasis. A recent survey study has shown that nearly 60% of Japanese Gynecologic Oncology Group (JGOG) institutions perform para-aortic lymphadenectomy for early-stage cervical cancer but there is a lack of universal indications for this procedure across their institutions [2].

Risk factors of para-aortic lymph node metastasis in stages IB, IIA and IIB cervical carcinoma

Objective: The purpose of the present study was to investigate the incidence and risk factors of para-aortic lymph node metastasis in stages IB, IIA and IIB cervical carcinoma and provide the basis for para-aortic lymph node dissection. Method: Four hundred and twenty-three patients with stages IB, IIA and IIB cervical cancer who had undergone radical hysterectomy, pelvic lymphadenectomy, and p...

NEOADJUVANT CHEMOTHERAPY WITH VINCRISTINE AND CISPLATIN FOLLOWED BY RADICAL HYSTERECTOMY AND PELVIC LYMPH ADENECTOMY FOR FIGO STAGE IB BULKY CERVICAL CANCER

Twenty patients with bulky (>4 cm size) FIGO stage IB cervical cancer were treated with cisplatin 50 mg/m2 and vincristine 1 mg/m2, administered intravenously at 10-day intervals for a total of 3 courses before radical hysterectomy. A complete clinical response was noted in 1 patient (5%) and partial response in 5 (25%). Fourteen patients (70%) had stable disease. There was no grade 3 toxic...

Risk stratification models for para-aortic lymph node metastasis and recurrence in stage IB–IIB cervical cancer

OBJECTIVE To examine the surgical-pathological predictors of para-aortic lymph node (PAN) metastasis at radical hysterectomy, and for PAN recurrence among women who did not undergo PAN dissection at radical hysterectomy. METHODS This is a retrospective analysis of a nation-wide cohort study of surgically-treated stage IB-IIB cervical cancer (n=5,620). Multivariate models were used to identify...

CyberKnife Ablation of a Solitary Para-Aortic Lymph Node Metastasis After Robotic-Assisted Radical Prostatectomy

Introduction: Radical prostatectomy is an effective curative treatment option for organ-confined prostate cancer. There is a recent trend in offering curative treatment to patients with oligometastatic disease. More sensitive imaging modalities can identify oligometastatic disease that is not usually detected by conventional imaging techniques. Case presentation: We present a case in which a s...

Contemporary analysis of pelvic and para-aortic metastasis in endometrial cancer using the SEER registry.

OBJECTIVE To determine the incidence of regional lymph node involvement for early-stage endometrial cancer by using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) registry. METHODS In a retrospective study, data were analyzed from patients who were diagnosed with stage IA-IIB endometrioid adenocarcinoma and were treated between 1998 and 2003. The incidence of pelvic and para-aortic ly...
